Some strange things are going on with the wildlife out there:
The storm-driven surf tossed two surprise visitors onto Florida beaches this weekend — two hooded seals, born just months ago on ice sheets in the North Atlantic.

No one knows why the animals wound up overheated and dehydrated so far from home but some scientists are beginning to worry.
“This whole thing is just very strange,” said Dr. Greg Bossart, a veteran marine mammal biologist who is treating the seals at Harbor Branch. “They’re strangers in a strange land.”

“Any number of things could cause it,” Litz said. “It could be a lack of resources, changes in the ice floes or maybe it was an unusually high year for pupping. We just don’t know.”

Florida wildlife officials have been asked to watch for other seals. Anyone who sees a seals on shore should call the state wildlife hotline at (888) 404-3922.
