==> Sometimes I just sit back and think, “well, yeah, I guess they have to come from somewhere.” Butterflies used in science classes have to come from somewhere, but it’s just not something I’ve ever thought about before now. Meet the Cousins. They run a butterfly farm.
As butterfly farmers, they’re accustomed to confused stares when people ask about their occupation.
==> Lee County is trying to figure out what to do about their dismal science FCAT scores.
“We will look closely at the high school science situation, the complaint is that the 11th-graders don’t have any motivation to show up for the test, let alone do well on it,†said Dr. Richard Itzen, director of accountability, research and continuous improvement.
Currently, the science exam is not a requirement for graduation, but the district is looking at what other counties are doing to determine if they need to provide more incentives for students to do well in science.
==> The Story of Human Origins, has been extended through July 19 at the Southwest Florida Museum of History. The exhibit spans 50 million years in scope with a collection of replicas of skeletons, skulls, footprints, tools, and artifacts, including one of the greatest anthropological finds in history – Lucy.
==> Why, yes, I do think we should Teach The Controversy.
==> OK, you know what to do: Use the words in the post title to make a creative news headline. “‘Teach the butterfly controversy’ bill was Lucy’s motivation to move to Canada.”
Thanks for the “Controversy” link, I purchased 3 shirts!
Lucy’s motivation to become a controversy caused by incident at butterfly farm!
Sorry, that’s the best I’ve got right now.
I just visited the Smithsonian yesterday as part of my train trip to Minneapolis (soon to become a bus trip due to flooding in Wisconsin)
I will be sending brandon pictres from the butterfly exhibit on coevolution which has a huge banner draped accross the Mall entrance to the building. The E word was everywhere! 😉 The Smithsonian has evolution signage in almost every exhibit except perhaps the Hope Diamond and it is packed with families and tour groups. Kids from everywhere getting a good dose of reality based education including human evolution. So I guess my headline could be Butterflies, Lucy and more on evolution motivates studnets and confronts the false controversy at the Smithsonian.
Butterflys now teaching Controversy in Canada, bills are Lucys motivation to move.
Creationist Legislators motivated: get Butterflies at prospect of “Teaching the Controversy” about famous fossil Lucy.
