Polk County get-together

Thanks to all those who attended the Florida Citizens for Science informal “get together” in Lakeland this afternoon (July 10th) and in particular to Pete Dunkelberg and Kathy Savage who both travelled from Orlando.

Joe Wolf (President of FCS) led the meeting in what turned out to be primarily concerned with the Academic Freedom issue and how best to be prepared if (and when) this canard raises it’s ugly head again in Florida.

It was also decided that the Florida Citizens for Science would be represented at the “Florida Association of Science Teachers” Annual Conference in Orlando this coming October with two lectures. One featuring Debra Walker and the second, a Breakout meeting with myself (Jonathan Smith) and two other members.

In all, a worth while meeting and nice to get together with great people who really care about science education in our State.

Please give us the “run down” on what went on.Sounds like I missed a good time!!!

  4. S.Scott says:

Well, I learned what a “Bucket” is! 🙂

  5. Brandon Haught says:

Very sorry I couldn’t make the Daytona party. As much as I wanted to go, it’s just too far away from home for a late night. Hit the west side of Volusia some time and I should be able to show up.

  6. S.Scott says:

We actually discussed moving the “party” around the state. Having a different host/hostess for each area.

One of the problems was knowing how many people would show and thus making the proper arrangements for accommodations.

So, is anyone interested in being a host for your part of the state?

    I’ll do NE Florida.

    Stacy

  10. S.Scott says:

Maybe you should go first GE since you don’t have much time left!
Why don’t you pick a date?

  11. Green Earth says:

This Sat 19th or next Friday 25th? Or even Sat Aug 2nd? Are weekends are better for everyone?

  12. Green Earth says:

Oh, and if people would prefer a restaurant/bar instead that’s fine too, we have pretty much every chain establishment you can think of in Tampa

  13. Jonathan Smith says:

I live in Brandon so I could be there on either dates.

  14. Green Earth says:
