Those who feel Creationism (Intelligent Design) needs to be taught along side Evolution as a valid opposing scientific theory, often site “evidence†from the Discovery Institute.
Well Michael Medved, newly named Discovery Institute fellow, “opens mouth and inserts foot” with a gem of a statement in this interview with the Jerusalem Post:
“The important thing about Intelligent Design is that it is not a theory – which is something I think they need to make more clear. Nor is Intelligent Design an explanation. Intelligent Design is a challenge. It’s a challenge to evolution. It does not replace evolution with something else.”
I wholeheartedly agree with that statement, ID is little more than a “smoke and mirrors” campaign to discredit Evolution, complete with horse trader slogans and pseudo scientific hogwash..
ID is certainly a challenge to evolution with about as much credibility or rationality as some guy revving his engine at me at a stoplight as a challenge to my competitive driving ability. So what Medved is admitting to, which I’m sure we have known all along, is that ID is a challenge with absolutely no scientific basis or rationale, yet it still wants its 5 min. of air time in science classes across America instead of the local church. I wonder how the creotards will spin this one…
Well, ID isn’t really much of a challenge.
It makes a great challenge for those largely ignorant of biology to spend time studying biology so they can debunk it.
However, there is no challenge in ID for folks who already have a strong grasp of basic biology.
In fact, I’d even go as far as saying that ID makes an excellent counter-example to be used in the classroom to teach what is not science.
It would have a happy home alongside spontaneous generation, the theory of “malaria” (e.g. that stinky air makes one sick, and not microbes), the concept of humors and blood letting, and Lamarckism.
It’s a challenge to evolution.
About as much a challenge as a Big Wheel is to a Lotus.
It does not replace evolution with something else
Translation: We got nothing.
It’s too bad that these blatant card-reveals don’t get more press.
Medved appears to be the only honest Discoveroid. My guess is that he won’t be there much longer.
I have yet to see Medved listed on the DI’s fellows page, main or CSC. Odd.
True, he’s not listed. However, here is their announcement of his appointment: Michael Medved Joins Discovery Institute as Senior Fellow.
This was a good one..
What it tells you is not true! LoL! 🙂
