Florida Southern College to Host Lectures about Religion, Science:
LAKELAND | Just a few days before the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birthday, an academic center at Florida Southern College will host a one-day meeting about the public conflict between science and religion.
The meeting, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, will feature a series of lecturers speaking on the topic, “Religion and Science in an Age of Doubt: The Battle for Jane and John Q. Public.”
The lectures will be held in the Hollis Room at Florida Southern and are free and open to the public.
Speakers will be:
John F. Haught, senior fellow for science and religion at Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
Paul Croce, professor of American cultural and intellectual history at Stetson University in DeLand
Connie Bertka, former senior research associate at the Geophysical Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, D.C., and is now an independent author and lecturer
