Schools, Science, and the State

Florida Citizens for Science board member David Campbell (the teacher who was featured in a New York Times article about the teaching of evolution) will be on a panel discussing evolution in Florida schools April 23. This is part of WJCT’s (Jacksonville) First Coast Forum program at 8pm on 89.9 FM and WJCT TV. You can submit questions and comments via the comments on their blog (in the above link), or email questions and comments to firstcoastforum@wjct.org or by calling (904) 358-6347 during the program. Please consider supporting Dave; I’m sure he’ll appreciate it.

We need someone who is in the Jacksonville area to possibly record this or at least take good notes and report back to us on how things go. Anyone willing to take on this assignment?

This is the kind of argument I’m sure David will face:

Evolution’s proofs are weak and getting weaker. Significantly, the probability of macro-evolution actually working is a mathematical impossibility. It could never be the cause of all the complexity of living organisms, no matter how much time is proposed. According to biochemists brave enough to speak the truth, a living cell is more complex than a whole series of mega-factories. It could never have evolved.

Checking around to see if someone can record the video. I can at least record the audio.

  2. S.Scott says:

I am capable of recording the video and have marked the date and time on my calendar. I cannot, however, be trusted to look at my calendar.

A reminder would be appreciated. 🙂 Also, a back- up plan/person would be good too!

I can burn it to DVD – but then what do you want? Send the DVD via snail mail? Or upload it to youtube??

  3. Theodore says:

Krisitine – Perhaps you can submit the audio with a stick figure drawing 😉

  4. Kristine says:

    ha, nice, Theodore.

S.Scott: Google Calendar (among other apps, I’m sure…) allows you to set up SMS and/or email reminders for events. That might help you.

  5. Kristine says:

Well, I did grab the audio, but they will have the video up online shortly:

(It will be up April “28st” 🙂 )
