Stick Science Contest: Rules & Entry

Entry Rules:

  • Contest is open to anyone who wants to enter with the exception of contest judges and their families. Folks outside the U.S. are welcome to participate (We just ask that you be patient with us concerning the shipping of prizes. I’ve never sent anything international before.).
  • The entry must deal with science education. This contest is not about philosophy or religion. Furthermore, this contest is not about making fun of creationists. We want you to help us correct misconceptions and false arguments used against science in a way that will educate, not ridicule.
  • Entries must be cartoon drawings using stick figures.
  • Entries must fit on a standard 8.5" x 11" piece of paper when printed. Orientation of paper can be horizontal or vertical.
  • Entries can be hand drawn or computer generated.
  • Entries can be color or black and white.
  • Entries can be accompanied by short, concise written information explaining what is going on in your cartoon. Keep in mind that the longer the written explanation, the worse your chances will be of winning.
  • Only one entry per contestant.
  • Cartoon must be the original work (both artwork and written words) of the entrant. If the judges already saw it on a T-shirt, bumper sticker, website, etc., you can be disqualified.
  • Deadline is August 31. Entries received after midnight on August 31 will not be accepted.
  • If you are under 18, we will need to verify that your parents are okay with your entering.
  • All submissions (winners and non-winners) become property of Florida Citizens for Science. You will get proper credit as the creator any time the cartoon is officially used. Cartoons can be used by Florida Citizens for Science and possibly the National Center for Science Education and other pro-science groups/organizations to promote science education and educate the public, especially whenever antievolution efforts get any traction in the United States. If you don't want your cartoon used for these purposes, then do not enter. Cartoons will not be used to make money in any way.
